Statement
For many years, the subject of my bookworks was women's lived experience, examining issues such as socialization, sexuality, abuse and housework. Three years ago, I developed breast cancer. In my quest for healing, I discovered that I had disturbingly high levels of several heavy metals in my body, presumably because I grew up near two smelters. This prompted me to start looking for connections between human health and our environment. As with my earlier work, I am using stories collected from other women as the basis for some pieces, as well as creating works based on my own research.
