STATEMENT: Lisa Pullen’s visual imagery is based on a keen sense of mythology, story-telling and personal history. Her drawings, in stark and menacing ink and pencil, build her personal vision of characters quirkily, with their palpable and thought-provoking sense of quandary, into the context of the contemporary. These preparatory drawings are transcribed onto lino blocks and carved.  She scrutinizes the characters and stories to reduce them to their indelible being, their bare bones, dramatically printed in her trademark red and black.
