In this box you’ll find a kit to grow your own ! I purchased a mix pack of wild flowers for acid (peat) soil and added them to the paper pulp. Species Include:- Wild Basil, ladys Bedstraw, Betony, birds-foot-trefoil, Meadow Buttercup, White Campion, Cats-ear, Oxeye daisy, Rough Hawkbit, Common Knapweed, Musk Mallow, Ribwort Plantain, Ragged Robin, Perforate St Johns-wort, Scabious Devils Bit, Selfheal, Common Sorrel, Common Toadflax, Yarrow, Yellow Rattle/Field scabious. handmade papers and wild flower seeds in book box with linen cover and driftwood toggle; This one has a diameter of 8.5m (28ft) when unrolled. ![]() Kelp papers, one of the books from the Journeys collection, 2006, one-off: These papers are made from kelp collected on Burragaig beach, mixed with linen rag and then embossed. Kelp was traditionally collected from two areas in Durness Parish, the stony beaches of Geodha Brat and Burragaig. Kelpers worked on these shores from the 1760’s to the 1940’s. Kelp was dried, then burnt before being sold. Burnt kelp was an ingredient for making glass and soap. Kelpers wages were between £1 and £3 per ton; each page is 100cm x 10cm and all placed unbound and flat, inside a book box with linen covers and driftwood toggle. ![]() Peat papers, 2006, multi-section books; handmade papers from peat, waste linen rag from the Scalpay weaving shed and linen half-stuff, books photographed in a peat stack; chunky A6 and A5 books. ![]() Nest box, 2007, one-off; found old nest, rope made from red-hot poker by Tim Johnson, handmade paper, verse written by Muriel Murray printed inside book box with linen cover and driftwood toggle; 15cm x 15cm x 10cm.

Joanne B Kaar Paperworks Tel: 01847 851 449 Joanne has worked as a self employed fibre artist since obtaining an MA at Manchester Metropolitan University in December 1992. Her studio on Dunnet Head overlooks the Pentland Firth and Dunnet Bay. She recently spent five exciting months in Taiwan as Artist in residence at the Chaoyang University and as consultant to the Su-Ho Paper Museum Taipei, culminating in exhibitions at the Su-Ho and Tower 101 (the tallest building the world). This residency was part funded by the Scottish Arts Council. She is the author of the book ‘Papermaking and Bookbinding Coastal Inspirations’ which was published by GMC in 2003.
